Army of Dreams – "Sweet Dreams" Meets "Seven Nation Army"

RELEASED: August 18, 2025

How it all started This project began when Sivan and Marina were off on vacation, and Farrah was left with a lull in work and subsequent boredom. To keep busy, she decided to experiment with a mashup—something she’d never tried before. She arranged an instrumental, blending Sweet Dreams (a previous suggestion from Sivan) with Seven Nation Army, and it immediately had potential. When Marina came back, she suggested we sing it instead, and we reshaped it into a three-part harmony, which we all worked back and forth on until it became what you hear now.

The vision and Location Hunt

From the start, we wanted to film somewhere desolate and barren to match the vibe we

were getting from the mashup. We went back and forth endlessly on possible location ideas, and each had its own set of problems.  Finally, inspiration struck: why not check Airbnb near Joshua Tree? That’s when we stumbled across The House of Kuna, and it was perfect. Boulders came right up to the house, giving us the otherworldly backdrop we had envisioned. Plus, we could stay and film in one place—two birds, one stone.

Outfits, Props, and Story

For wardrobe, we went with desert boho vibes—flowy, earthy, and perfectly in tune with the setting.

For the story, we leaned into the meanings of both songs. Sweet Dreams reflects desire, longing, and the search for fulfillment, while Seven Nation Army embodies determination, struggle, and the fight against them. Combined, our mashup became a story about letting go of the things that hold us back.

We gathered ceremonial items - a rain stick, copper plate, sage, driftwood and planned a ceremonial story with some tribal vibes.  The desert setting gave us the perfect symbols for that journey—barren landscapes for emptiness, fire as transformation, and wide skies as the freedom that comes when you release what no longer serves you.  We burned things that needed releasing, used the ashes to draw symbols of the things that keep us imprisoned, and wiped them away.

Filming in the Desert

We spent an evening and a morning filming, with just a few hours of R&R in between. The evening wind made things tough, and our planned story shots that included fire had to be postponed for safety. Luckily, the morning was calm and wind-free— and it all worked out.

This video ended up with so many shots. Honestly, it was a little ridiculous. We even filmed in front of the stunning house itself, but never used that footage. (There’s probably enough leftover to make a whole second video!) Editing took a while since we had travel plans right after, and combined with the sheer amount of footage, this one turned into a big project.

The house of Kuna

The House of Kuna deserves a section of its own. The property was absolutely magical—

massive boulders scattered across the desert, hammocks and a firepit, a cowboy tub, and even a hot tub. At night, the rocks glowed in the moonlight, turning the place into a desert wonderland.

We’ve already said we’re going back one day, not just to film, but to spend a weekend there with our ukulele friends.

During our stay, we made a gorgeous charcuterie spread and played music outside under the stars—until a large animal wandered through and chased Sivan and Marina inside, leaving Farrah alone to gaze up at the Milky Way. There happened to be a meteor shower that night, and you can bet she made a wish.

And the next morning when Sivan had to have her hair air dried in 15 minutes or we were going to miss the light?  There was an old school salon dryer sitting in the room she stayed in!  The stars always align for us…

A Dreamy but Demanding Project

Army of Dreams was anything but quick and easy—it pushed us creatively, logistically, and emotionally. But the result was worth every challenge. This mashup feels like one of our most powerful projects yet, and it wouldn’t have been the same without the wild beauty of the desert to bring it to life.  In the end we released it on 8.18, a number that often signals a karmic cycle ending. Letting go may feel uncomfortable, but it’s clearing the path for renewal and opportunities that are better suited to you.
