A class that sparked it all This whole project began in one of Boris’s SpicyUke classes, when he surprised us with a Cuban salsa lesson. He taught us a salsa rhythm, a fun riff, and the 3:2 clave pattern. We love learning about music from around the world, and this one grabbed us right away. It was just beginning to be fleshed out into a full song.
At first, the idea sat on the backburner, but after the Army of Dreams project nearly killed Farrah, she insisted the next one would be quick, easy, and no budget.
Writing the song
One afternoon in the park, we started playing with melody ideas. Marina really nailed the core melody, and Farrah took it home and turned it into a full arrangement. What's in a name?
In the middle of our park jam, Marina was singing the rhythm and filling in with random placeholder words. Out of nowhere came the line: “I saw you on the floor.” It stuck in Farrah’s head instantly, and she started envisioning a bar in Havana. From that moment on, the song had its name: Te Vi en la Pista (“I saw you on the dance floor”).
Turning Sivan's dining room into Havana
No budget meant no studio rentals and no shopping sprees for costumes or props. Instead, Sivan’s closet became our wardrobe, and with a few pins and adjustments, we made it work. Marina even pulled a swap from her own closet, and together we landed on the perfect color palette and style.
So yes—this was a true no-budget production. Well… almost. Sivan couldn’t resist breaking the rule with a bit of fabric and a carpet, but Marina paired it perfectly with a throw for the valance. Suddenly, Sivan’s dining room transformed into a cozy Cuban lounge. Add a tray of mojitos, and voilà—we were in Havana

Fabric hunting:
The most relaxed project yet
This has to be our closest attempt at “quick and easy.” We didn’t overthink, we didn’t stress—we just enjoyed the music and let it happen. And we love how it turned out.
If we ever get the chance to perform live, this one is definitely going on the set list.
